Hey everyone! So, you know those days when you’re like, “I need a change of scenery, ASAP”? That was me, last Thursday. On a total whim, I decided to check out this place my coworker, Dave (you know, the one who brings donuts on Mondays), wouldn’t stop raving about – the Forest of Fortitude. Sounds like something out of a fantasy novel, right? Well, let me tell you, it kinda is.

I grab my backpack, throw in some snacks (because let’s be real, snacks are life), and I’m off. The drive there was classic me – missed turns, loud singing to songs I half-know, and a pit stop for coffee (because, coffee). I pull up to this forest, half expecting a sign that says, “Beware of Dragons” or something. Spoiler alert: no dragons, just a lot of trees and this sense of calm that hit me like a wave.
The moment I step in, it’s like walking into a different world. There’s this path, winding like it’s got all the time in the world (which I guess it does), and trees so tall, they make skyscrapers look like Lego buildings. The sunlight’s doing this epic dance through the leaves, and everything is just so… green. Like, fifty shades of green. And the air! It smells like rain and earth and something sweet I can’t quite put my finger on.
So, I’m walking, munching on trail mix, and every two seconds, I’m stopping to take photos. There’s this creek that’s so clear, you can see the pebbles at the bottom, looking like a mosaic art piece. And the birds – guys, the soundtrack of this place is straight-up nature’s greatest hits.
But here’s the kicker – this forest makes you feel like a kid again. I found myself hopping on rocks across the creek, trying (and failing) to climb a tree, and yes, even talking to a squirrel. Don’t ask, I don’t know why. There’s this freeing vibe, like the forest is saying, “Forget adulting, let’s have some fun.”
I stumble upon this clearing – and it’s not just any clearing. It’s got sunbeams, butterflies, the works. I plop down, and I’m just lying there, looking up at the sky, thinking about everything and nothing. I think I even dozed off because the next thing I know, the sun’s setting, and the whole place is bathed in this golden light. Magic hour, indeed.
Making my way back (thankfully without getting lost – a miracle!), I’m already planning my next trip. Maybe a picnic? A painting session? Who knows! This forest is like that cool, mysterious friend who always has something new to show you.
So, long story short, if you’re ever feeling like you need a break from reality, or just want to see if squirrels really do talk back, the Forest of Fortitude is your go-to. Trust me, it’s an experience that’s part storybook, part therapy, and totally worth the trip. Just maybe bring a map, unless you’re feeling adventurous!
